Iwish to bring to your attention a vacancy notice for a position of
"Director of the Division of Social Science Research and Policy" at
UNESCO
Headquarters in Paris which is available on the web
http://www.unesco.org/per
As you may know UNESCO has embarked on a profound process of
reform in order to renew its efforts to promote peace founded on the
intellectual and moral solidarity of humankind.
We are now preparing to recruit for the post of Director of the Division of
Social Science Research and Policy to replace the incumbent who will soon
retire. In doing so we want to encourage qualified female candidates from
underrepresented countries. We are looking for a candidate who combines
academic achievements, policy formulation and international experiences,
with a Doctorate in fields related to the issues of Social Science.
The challenge for the Director of the Division of Social Science will now be
to further the production of knowledge about social transformations, to
increase the relevance of social science research to policy-making, to
promote the development of the social sciences internationally, to
strengthen cooperation among social scientists, professionals and
institutions in developing countries and to ensure that greater use is made
of research findings.
In the field of Urban Development the strategy aims at renewal of public
policies in the framework of sustainable development and integrated urban
management, social cohesion, and utilisation of the results of research for
member states.
In the field of International Migrations and Multiculturalism the Director
will provide policy-makers working in the field of international migration
and related social issues with relevant scientific analysis, empirical
evidence and policy recommendations based on the UN Convention on the Rights
of Migrants.
In the field of Democracy and Governance the Director will analyse the
political impact on societies of recent results obtained from research on
globalisation and urban governance and to reflect on new forms of
citizenship based on case studies on the emergence of new forms of citizen
allegiances.
One of the responsibilities of the Division is also to initiate, coordinate
and plan the interdisciplinary and issue-focussed UNESCO Chairs programme
and the related university partnerships covering the fields set out in
Agenda 21 and the Copenhagen principles (social sustainable development).
As you may know, the primary responsibility of the development of the MOST
Programme is also with this Division and the Director will review the
evaluation of the programme and the result of the valuation will be
translated in a Plan of Action that will guide the innovation and changes in
the governance of the programme.
